In 2020 two blokes built a pub next to one of their houses during lockdown. Then they sat in it, drank beer and cooked food on the big green egg. Then one of them started making hot sauces. Both of them thought they were great. And then all the other people drinking in the pub thought they were great. Whether it was chicken wings, ribs, steaks or burgers, the sauces always went down a storm.

The old cliche of “you should sell these” was said more than once and we agreed. Luckily one of the blokes drinking in the pub owned a farm with a huge polytunnel. So we planted some chillies. Thousands of them. The first harvest was huge. We had enough for 10,000 bottles!

But this is Cornwall and we are Cornish. So we made some sauce, went to the pub and gave it to our mates. Much like everything in Cornwall it didn’t happen then, it happened dreckly.

It took us 3 years to get to a stage where we could sell to the public. We would love to say it was 3 years of market research, product development and strategic meetings but we just went to the pub.

And now here we are. 3 beautiful chilli sauces with 3 unique flavours and heats. All organic, all using Cornish grown chillies and all amazing in their own way.

The name “Ellup” is our own version of the Cornish word “Hell Up” which translated into English means ‘there’s something quite lively going on ‘ making it perfect for our Chilli Sauces. Imagine a drunken night in the pub, loud live music, beer flowing, people dancing on tables and someone walks past, looks in the window and says “there’s bleddy hell up in there”. Now you understand our sauces and our philosophy!!
